Doreen Barton passed away on June 15, 2022. She was predeceased by her parents Casper and Phyllis Hickie, siblings Martha Moke Puha and Ed Hickie and husbands James Barton and Egill Hordal. She is survived by sons Edward Barton (Debbie), Dean Barton (Joan) and Timothy Barton (Yasuko) and grandchildren Chantel (John), Tyler (Tessa), James (Gaby), Emily (Anthony), Kenta and Shun as well as great grandchildren Clementine, Cormac and Wyatt. Doreen was born and raised in the Melville area. She moved to Regina in the mid-fifties to start her working career. She worked for the provincial government before settling at SGI where she worked for over 30 years before she retired. Doreen loved to travel and visited Hawaii, Japan, England and many other places. She was an avid baker and was famous for her freshly baked bread, butter tarts and cinnamon buns. Doreen also loved to garden. She planted a garden every year and always had a bountiful crop. She knew all of the tips and tricks to ensure she had plenty of vegetables for the winter. She inherited her skill and love of sewing from her mother who was a seamstress for many years. Doreen loved to watch curling on TV and live whenever a major event came to town and even traveled to Las Vegas to watch the World Men’s Championships! She knew all of the curlers and could even tell you facts about their personal lives! She was a diehard Saskatchewan Roughriders fan and held season tickets for nearly fifty years. You could also find her volunteering at many major sporting events like the Brier and the Grey Cup. The most important thing to Doreen was her grandchildren. They called her Nana and she was proud of all six of them and it showed when she talked about them. She had a special and unique relationship with each of them and the love and special bond she had with each of them was obvious whenever she spent time with them. Doreen was always there to help family, friends and even complete strangers whenever anyone was in need. She will be missed by her many friends and relatives that she did such a good job staying connected with.
